Mission Statement

A World Class Education

Because of the complex nature of Mandarin language studies a small class size is an important characteristic of a great school. The Academy recognized early on that in order to create a truly outstanding method of teaching Mandarin Chinese it would become necessary to reduce class sizes below that which was common.

One of the distinct strengths of The Academy is the fact that it has one of the smallest class sizes available anywhere, with an average of 3 students per teacher, and a maximum of 6. This teacher to student ratio is about twice that of what most other private institutions offer, and five times that of Chinese universities.

Enjoyment

Probably the best approach to learning a language is to enjoy studying it. Beijing Gateway Academy is a community of people that enjoy an exotic and often breathtaking country and culture. Every aspect of The Academy’s operation is geared towards making sure that students and staff enjoy their work.

The extracurricular activities, the classroom environment, the rigorous selection process for staff, the social calendar; they all create and contain a sense of The Academy’s community. They make The Academy as much a place for people to meet, as a place to learn a language.

No hidden costs

The program fee that students pay when they decide to come covers the costs of their stay. Beyond that, The Academy has no profit agenda.

From our great Friday night BBQ’s (which both students and staff attend, vegetarian options are included) to when we pack up a 4x4 and go camping under the stars on The Great Wall (far far away from any other tourists), we do this because we also enjoy it and we charge only that which is necessary to cover the basic costs.

In short, once you have enrolled, our aim is to provide a world class education in the Mandarin language and to introduce you to a community which is as much a memory for life, as it is a productive experience and a fantastic investment in your career and skill set.
